John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
I was in a grocery store yesterday getting some cold cuts and there was a lady next to me who was waiting to be served also. I start conversations with people so I can have an opportunity to share the gospel as the Lord leads. I could see she had some sort of disability. I started talking to her and during our talk she revealed she had Parkinson’s disease. I immediately felt so bad for her. She was struggling to stand and I knew about Parkinson’s disease because my former pastor had it. I shared with her my own testimony and then it was her turn to order…. but before she did she gave me a big hug.
I walked away to continue my shopping and I saw this older woman smiling at me so I smiled back and she started talking to me. She told me that I was hugging her daughter and that she had Parkinson’s disease. I told her I was very sorry to hear that and then she said something that stunned me. With tears in her eyes she said…..I wish it was me…..I wish I had gotten that disease instead of my daughter. She told me it ran in her family and several family members had died from it. This Woman was 90 years old and heartbroken. I had one of my testimonies on sufferings and I gave it to her and through her tears she asked if I was a Jehovah’s Witness because she was Catholic. I told her no and said a short prayer for her and continued shopping.
I checked out and put my groceries in my car and sat there a while thinking about that mother’s statement of deep love. She would have given her life for her daughters. To hear her say….I wish it was me was still ringing in my ears.
Then I thought about someone who did that for me…..and you…..it was Jesus. He gave His very own life for me.
John 10:18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”
This mother said what she said out of love. Jesus did what He did out of love.
Message for today: Do you realize the incredible sacrifice of love that was made for us?
Have you thanked Jesus lately?
P.S.- This is why I love Jesus so.
