John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.(KJV)
I searched for a meaning that I could understand of the word abide that puts it in the proper perceptive from what it meant in the above scripture and the one I liked the most was this:
To abide means to continue doing whatever is being done even when it is hard and the urge to quit is almost too much.
Abide could also mean to take up residence in.
It’s imperative that we really meditate on this scripture because it’s very important for our spiritual development. If we are going to be effective for the Lord and bring God the glory for the things we accomplish for the kingdom we need to abide in the Lord.
This is the way I put it in my mind:
I need to hang with Jesus because He is hanging with me… and if I try to hang by myself the enemy will probably …no he will… put the squeeze on me and overcome me with defeat. I’ll have no effect in the kingdom and will not be a witness for my God. But….if I do hang with Jesus….I can let this world see the power of God and this will bring Him so much Glory and show the world that Jesus rules!!
This is my example of how to hang or abide with Jesus:
I bought my husband a beautiful black Cashmere dress business coat and no matter how many times I clean that coat with the lint brush…there is always that one piece of lint that will not come off the coat. We need to be like that piece of lint and stick with Jesus like that. That coat can go out into all kinds of weather…survive daily wear , in and out of the car and still stick to that coat without coming off.
This is the way I’m sticking to the Lord. I’ve survived all kinds of perils in my life….even cancer couldn’t shake me loose and stop me from abiding in the Lord…bringing Him glory for my testimony of how God brought me through.
So…dear saints…abide in Jesus no matter what happens. This principle will bring so many spiritual blessings in your life. Whatever you do for the Lord will be done if you follow this uncomplicated principal of abiding.
Message for today: Hang out in Jesus and He will hang out in you. Be that piece of lint and cling to that coat. Endure to the end….don’t let the test and trials of life shake you loose….hold on!!!!!
John 15:4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. (NIV)
