Matthew 18:22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.
Matthew 26:67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him
Matthew 27:30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.
Mark 14:65 Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.
Jesus was slapped right in His face! I think to be slapped in your face is emotionally very hurtful and is much more insulting than a punch. There’s something about it that says something much deeper than just fighting someone. I have never been slapped in my face and I hope I never will be. It hurts my heart to know that Jesus was disgraced, offended, and abused in this way. I think about how He must have felt. And you know what else….He took it! He bared it! He could have destroyed them all. He could have let the angels beat their butts! But He accepted all the disrespect for us!
Immanuel עִמָּנוּאֵל means “God with us”.
So let me get this straight…God Himself came down to the earth that He created and fixed things so we could straighten out our relationship with Him so that through Jesus Christ we could be holy and clean enough to be presented to God and live with Him forever in heaven? Yes!!!
So the most Superior Supreme and Holy being in the entire universe allowed Himself to be tortured by His own creations so that we could be adopted by Him and become His very own child? Yes!!!
So God is now my Father because I accepted His Son Jesus as my Savior and nothing will ever separate me from Him? Yes
Knowing all the horribleness that God allowed Himself to go through….how does that make me feel? Very loved!
To all who read this blog today….please read those 4 scriptures verses above one more time and then close your eyes and just think for a few moments about what God went through to make you His….How does it make you feel? Who would do that for somebody? If you’re not sure that God loves you…just keep reading those 4 verses.
