What is the Grace of God?

Grace of God

Grace of God 1

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Early in my walk with the Lord I was facing many difficult trials. When I first started asking God for help I would always come to the scripture verse above. It use to really make me a little mad because I needed some big miracles and all of my problems solved and I thought…all I can get was some….grace? That answer didn’t do it for me at that time. Years later after many trials and as I matured in the Lord…I began to learn how wonderful grace really was for me back then and how important it is in my life now.Grace of God 2

I’ve suffered from a rare illness that has affected my whole life. My mother in law gave me a book that influenced my outlook on going through a chronic illness. It’s called…Asked for Healing Given Grace. So what really is this grace? Most sermons I’ve heard on this subject says grace is unmerited favor and this is a true statement. But I need to have a more comprehensive understanding on what is grace.

The first biblical example of the grace of God is in the beginning of the bible with the very first humans Adam and Eve.

Grace of God 3

God’s Grace

Genesis 1:8-9 They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”

Genesis 1:24The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them

God could have wiped them out for their disobedience but He had mercy on their souls and extended His graciousness. He was so gentle with them. His presence came down to earth to talk to them and He even made them clothes. I think God showed them a great deal of grace and mercy.

Noah found also found grace. Genesis 6:8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. Mary Jesus mother found it too. Luke 1:30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.

God does not have to be gracious to anyone He doesn’t chose to. But He does extend mercy to all who want to be a part of His life through His Son Jesus Christ.

Exodus 33:19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

I believe God is saying in this verse that His graciousness is His goodness and kindness. TV portrays gods as being mean or having an evil side because they have power. But that’s man view of a god. Our God is “KIND and GOOD”. (Let’s not forget that He’s just also.)  I don’t think we have the capability of understanding the degree of goodness God is. I think if we did we wouldn’t be as fearful and doubtful as we are at times.

Mark 10:28 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good–except God alone. Psalms 136:1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good….

Jesus Christ declares God as being GOOD!

Exodus 34:6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,

God Himself declares Himself as being… compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

Grace of God 5

The grace of God is how we have been saved from God’s wrath and it’s a gift to us. This gift was given to us through Jesus Christ death and resurrection.

So as you can see there is quite a lot involved in this “amazing grace”. God is a very complex supernatural being. He has made some knowledge about His attributes and character known to us…but He is still a mystery to us because of the complexity of His overall nature. I have written 7 blog on the holiness of God and I have to admit…after I wrote the last one I was a little…terrified getting a taste of knowing how powerful He is. After studying about His grace….I’m so glad I realize just how loving and gracious He is. For God SO LOVED the world….John 3:16.

There are words that come to my mind about the grace of God:

  1. Loving
  2. Merciful
  3. Graciousness
  4. A Savior
  5. Forgiveness
  6. Favor
  7. Compassion
  8. Faithful
  9. Caring
  10. Shepherd
  11. A covering
  12. Support
  13. Protector
  14. Sustainer
  15. Blessing

Grace is necessary for the human spirit’s survival!!  First of all my soul would have stayed spiritually dead after my death without Gods’ grace. I could not make it every second of every day without God’s grace because life is hard and full of trials. When I was living without God’s grace I was alone, suicidal and searching for meaning in my life. I was rotten inside in my own evilness and moral disobedience to the nature of God. I needed grace like a drug that could heal my sin sickness. Grace was that pill I swallowed to receive God’s gift of grace and healing for my soul.

When I found out that I had cancer…I looked for and received the grace of God and He gave me the support I needed to get through that very scary and difficult time.

Grace is God Himself!! It’s God and all of His POWER involved in our lives!!!  WHEN WE NEED GRACE…WE REALLY NEED GOD!!!!! Do you get it now? We need God! We need who He is! We are nothing without Him and we are nothing without His grace. You cannot take grace and put it in a little box because grace is attached to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They all contribute to this unique nature of God for overcoming power in our lives.

Grace of God 4

Trying to understand God’s grace or any of the other supernatural things about God is like trying to hold water in your hands without a cup. You know your hand is wet…you can feel the effects but you just can’t hold on to it. I try hard to hold onto the supernatualness of God but it slips away because of my humanity. But inside of me… my spiritman knows that these things are real and available to me. The bible reveals this truth by the power of the Holy Spirit living inside of me.

We may not totally comprehend the grace of God but we can glean enough to apply it to our minds and have peace in our souls. I know that we have this wonder gift of God to cover us all day every day. We are not without His mercy, help and love at all times. We are His Child!!!!! Feel secure in this today. Fear not and have peace in your mind. You have God’s amazing grace!

Our High Priest will help us

high priest

Hebrews 4:14-16  Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

The Lord wants me to share this verse with you today.  Jesus understands everything that we are going through!  Praise the Lord!  So we need to hold on tightly to our faith in our High Priest!  When we pray…we should be bold and confident!  And this is the part that touches me so…..

GOD WILL HAVE MERCY ON US…..HE WILL FORGIVE US….CLEANSE US AND THE GRACE OF GOD WILL BE THERE FOR US WHEN WE ARE GOING THROUGH OUR TRIALS!!!!!!!!

God said He will be gracious to whom I will be gracious ( Exodus 33:19)  And His graciousness is for me and it’s for you!  I need a god who will extend mercy to me and who will be with me and help me in my time of trouble.  This makes me feel safe and secure.

No matter what you are facing today….meditate on Hebrews 4:14-16….Be encouraged!

The Grace of God… The Last Words in the Bible

Revelation 22:21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

The Lord wants me to share with you about the wonderful grace of our Holy God. I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to share the very last verse in the whole bible which is above.

After inspiring and authorizing God’s living message to all of us…. the very last thing He talked about is His church and His grace being with us all. If I tried to explain all the aspects of God’s Grace I won’t have a blog….I would have written a book. So as I always say…do a bible study yourself about the grace of our God.

Asked for Healing Given Grace -Book

These are my thoughts about God’s grace. We all know we don’t deserve God’s grace and that grace is one of the  atributes of God. God’s grace means so much more to me at this time of my life. When I first became a committed Christian…..I didn’t understand about God’s grace. My mother in law, before she went home to be with the Lord, had given me a book called…Asked for healing given grace. I asked her how she dealt with being so sick for so long and she just handed me that book. I was like…how is this book going to help me?…..so I put it in a draw and there it stayed for years. I myself had been sick for many years. A day came when I got cancer on top of the other illnesses. I  just happened to find that book( well you know with God it’s never just happened, it was His perfect timing). It was like brand new because I had never read it.

When I read the book….I cried and for the first time in my life I began to understand about God grace and how much He loves us and keeps us when we are going through difficult things. I read that book over and over, underlined things and meditated on it.

Over the years I have been on a journey to understand, know, depend on, look for and live off of the grace of God. God’s grace has saved me, saved my life, my very soul. It is one of God’s attributes that I suck right out of God…..His grace and His Love…..He gives it to me and I try to pull as much of it out of Him that my little human self can get out of Him. I need it like a drug addict needs drugs. ( like it’s the only analogy I could up with…I know…right?)

The bible says grace and mercy will follow us…..I turned around and just grabbed on to it every day. Sometimes all day long. I NEED IT!!! I need help…..I need for MY FATHER…..who is the God of the universe to be there for me….and I tell you from my personal experience with Him……God HAS NEVER EVER LET ME DOWN!!!…NOT EVER!!! So what 4 of my kids were in intensive care at birth, so what I had breast cancer and a mastectomy, so what I had a hysterectomy, so what I found out I have a very rare disease and have been through too much more to list out…so what! You know why so what?…….Because in looking back God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and a host of God’s angels were with me every second and They helped me to get THROUGH IT ALL!! Not only get through it but get the victory and I can still…….(Now really listen here) I can still…Give God all the praise and glory….and I love Him so so much….even after all I’ve been through and all I’m going through!!

2 Corinthians But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

THE GRACE OF GOD IS SUFFCIENT! It is more than enough to meet the need of salvation, protection and nurturing of all human life. My

observation about the grace of God is that it is like  looking through a kaleidoscope and every time you turn it…it gets more and more beautiful and never ending. In my mind…. God’s grace keeps evolving into a deeper understanding of it and it unfolds into God’s sustaining abilities pertaining to my life.

We can look back and see all the times God was there for us and His other children and we can hardly believe all the many blessings even through very difficult circumstances and these blessings of grace never stop. Oh that amazing grace!

My teen years

It reminds me of a song I sang as a teenager by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell:

I underlined all the words I feel God is saying to me and the rest is what I’m saying to Him( yes…I know it’s a secular song….but come on God used a donkey to speak for Him…(Open mind here 🙂 Please).

You’re All I Need to Get By:

You’re all I need to get by.
Like the sweet morning dew, I took one look at you,
And it was plain to see,
you were my destiny. With my arms open wide,
I threw away my pride
I’ll sacrifice for you
Dedicate my life to you
I will go where you lead
Always there in time of need
And when I lose my will
You’ll be there to push me up the hill”
There’s no, no looking back for us
We got love sure ‘nough, that’s enough
You’re all, You’re All I need to get by.

You’re all I need to get by.
Like an eagle protects his nest, for you I’ll do my best,
Stand by you like a tree, dare anybody to try and move me
Darling in you I found
Strength where I was torn down
Don’t know what’s in store but together we can open any door
Just to do what’s good for you and inspire you a little higher
I know you can make a man out of a soul that didn’t have a goal
Cause we, we got the right foundation and with love and determination
You’re all, you’re all I want to strive for and do a little more
You’re all, all the joys under the sun wrapped up into one
You’re all, You’re all I need to get by.

Message for today: God is all we need….His grace…not just to get by ….but to have a happy, peaceful, blessed, abundant, prosperous and victorious life. His grace truly is…..sufficient.

Revelation 22:21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
