Matthew 25:1-13 The Parable of the Ten Virgins

1 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Yes, I’m getting married and if you are a Christian so are you. It is a metaphor that God gave us in His word of us being the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the parable above it is what Jesus is looking for in His bride. He wants us to be ready for Him.

I’m going to tell you some of my personal business here because I want to make a point. I have been married twice. My first married ended because of an extreme situation. I had a really big wedding and my mom and I argued about wedding plans. She was buying everything. I figured out later she had eloped and my wedding was a dream for her to live through. I bought my own dress and I got a cheap ugly dress and wore a wig. I was not a pretty breath taking bride.

At my second wedding and marriage, which is still going on for 36 year now, praise the Lord, I did the same thing “like duh”, bought a cheap gown off the sale rack, made my veil and called it a day. I do wish that I had gotten a better dress and would like to renew my vows one day with a beautiful dress and some weight loss LOL.

I’m going to share with you a wonderful vision that I have had many times including this morning. When I first had this vision I was a new Christian. I saw myself in a very plain wedding dress. It had no embellishments on it, it was almost like a white robe and I had a flower for a bouquet. I rode in a limousine and it pulled up at a church and let me out.

I walked up the stairs into the church. I could hear beautiful music playing and my heart was beating so hard because I knew who was waiting for me. I turned the corner to walk down the aisle and at the end of that long aisle was Jesus. As my eyes met His tears began to flow down my face. The love I saw in His eyes that He had for me was overwhelming….and then….the dream was over.

I’ve had this dream many time over the 27 years since my salvation and each time I have it my dress gets a little more elaborate. Right now my dress is so beautiful. It’s a huge large princess gown with a very long train and has thousands of diamonds embedded throughout the whole dress, the veil and my bouquet. Every time I have the dream I want to get to the end of the aisle but I can’t go any further. I believe this is because I have to WAIT for the bridegroom to come for me. My heart is anxiously waiting for Jesus to come for me. As the parable says we should be ready and watch for Him.

I may not have had the right dress for my other weddings….but I’ve got the right one now!!!! Praise God!
