Pursue God… really hard

aw tozer best

Psalm 63:8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

In  A.W. Tozer’s book “The pursuit of God” he makes this statement…

“Complacency is a deadly foe of spiritual growth.  Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people.  He waits to be wanted.”

When I read this I said…this is what I have tried to say throughout my blogs.  We have to hunger after God as if our very breath depends on Him.  We have to dwell on Him daily.  Without this….we will not see much of His beautiful Shekinah Glory or The Holy Spirit pouring out the presence of God on us.  Our relationship with God will just be kinda general and unemotional.

God has emotions and feelings.  He desires to connect with us intimately.

Look around you in the room you’re in right now…take a pencil with an eraser and in your mind… erase everything around you….now erase your things, family and valuables.  What do you have?  Nothing!  That’s right you really have nothing… but God.  You came into this world with nothing and you will leave with nothing.  All we really have is…..God.

It’s not that the things around you mean nothing…it’s that God is everything!!!!  He made you….He loves you so much.  He doesn’t need you to worship the ground He walks on because God doesn’t NEED anything or anybody… but I believe He loves it when you’re thinking of Him throughout your day.  He loves when you talk to Him.  He loves when you do everything in your power to be kind to others.  He loves for you to tell others about Him.  He loves your faithfulness and obedience.

We can’t be cheap with our worship and homage to our God.  We need to act like He’s the greatest Father God in our lives… if this is what we are professing.

Don’t love God in a human way…a general way…when you feel like bothering with Him way, in an uninterested way…but love Him passionately and intimately!  Love Him with deep feelings.  You can’t do this at all if you don’t know Him.

Are you thinking… how do I get to know Him?

There are 3 ways that I know of:

  1. Pray
  2. Read and study the bible
  3. With Help from the Holy Spirit

You have to be determined to know God.  I have been on a diet for 3 years and have lost 90 lbs.  It has been very hard because of my health issues.    I can’t do a lot of exercising….but I was so determined.  Nobody could do it for me or make me do it.  I had to want to do it for myself.

To know God more….you must be determined to know Him.  You have to make it up in your mind that you want to know God in a deeper way and then make an effort to do it.

When you succeed at this… God will reward you with His presence!!!!  Your reward will also be a change in you because you will develop an acute desire for God as A.W.Tozer stated that we need in order to see a manifestation of Christ.  ………As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. Psalms 41:1

Everybody is talking about revival, revival.  Revival will come when we desire God in such a way that His presence will fall on us like rain and our hungry and God thirsty soul will be filled with Him.

This is the time for us…God’s creations to run after Him.  We need to show Him our love and appreciation for all He’s done for us.  We need to get out of our own way and beat a path to our God.  We need to set up tabernacles in our heart and mind and get on our faces before our Holy and Sovereign God and worship Him.  Humility goes a long way with God.

The place to be is with God!  We have the ability to connect with God this way because of the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross and because of the fulfilled promise of the Holy Spirit.

I’m telling everyone that things have changed in this world but God has not changed or taken back any of His promises.  His love for us hasn’t changed.  It’s the same powerful love that He has always had for us.  But have we changed.  We have downplayed our need for Him.  Have we downplayed His importance in our daily lives and pushed Him into a few hours on Sunday morning?

aw tozer big view

It’s ok to enjoy this beautiful world He gave us to live in.  It’s ok to enjoy things.  But we must keep a balance.  It’s not that hard to put God in the forefront of our lives.  It’s not difficult to talk to Him throughout our day.  I have had my share of distractions that try to eat up my time in which I can give more of to the Lord.  I’ll tell on myself here…..TV, internet surfing, shopping on Ebay to name a few.  It just sucks me right in and I repent and make a new effort to commit myself more to the things of God.  There are no excuses.  I’m determined to know God and walk with Him.  I KNOW this pleases Him!!!

I’m hungry for God and I want to remain hungry because I want God’s attention and I KNOW when I worship Him….I’ve got His direct attention and I know He will react to it.  I need reaction….my life is a challenge. I need as much of God’s direct presence as I can get.  Now God’s always watching over me so I know I’m good there….but I want that extra anointing, blessing and touch that God has for those who put their full devotion and trust in Him.  I feel very weak when I get “distracted” from my worship and time with the Lord.

I know this is a long blog today and I hope you’ve hung in there with me….but I feel very led to share this with you.  This is what God is pouring into my spirit for me….and you know I share all with you.  God bless you all…..God bless you!!!!!

OH GOD!!!!!

Oh God

Why did God give us music?

why God created music best

Colossians  3:16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Psalms 71:23 My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you– I whom you have delivered.

James 5:13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.

Ephesians 5:19  speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,

Psalm 150:1-6

  Praise the Lord.

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

There are many scriptures about singing and music in the bible.

I love music so much.  Music is very powerful!!!  Remember how people have reacted to music with Elvis, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson…etc.  People went into frenzies because of their music.  I have reacted in dramatic ways because of certain forms of music.  Growing up I was moved by sounds coming from Motown’s artist and from show tunes, hymns and classical music.  But there are two forms of music that brings me to massive tears sometimes….and that is gospel, Christian, and classical music.

Sometimes just the music moves me and other times it’s the words combined with the music.  There is one song however that just brings me to massive tears that can last for hours and it’s a song called None but the righteous by Bishop Paul S Morton Sr. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY3rdUioIAA This song may not affect you that way because everybody has their own personal sensitive spot in their heart and soul.  But this song makes me think how blessed I am to be saved and the singer vamps…”I can’t wait to see His face and ask this question “don’t you want to see Him?”  Sometimes I play this song before I pray and it makes me go into very deep intercession for souls.  Sometimes I play it when I want to just worship the Lord and I cry and tell Him how I can’t wait to see Him.

why God created music man singing

There are times in church that singing songs of praise will make the tears fall from my eyes.  Sometimes when I sing I cry from a great connection and anointing with the music.  Yes music is an incredible mystery that’s a gift from God.  I’ve even heard music from the Lord in my prayer time.  It has only happened once… but was so powerful that I never forget it.  I can’t even describe it to you except to say it was…”powerful” and yet it’s probably something God allowed me to hear just for me because I was seeking Him so and it may not actually be heavens music.

Why did God give us music and why is it important in our worship?

Music can touch the soul in a way that is unique and mysterious.  God created it and connected it to our senses and emotions.  When we praise God through this form of worship…A unique connection is made between us and the creator and we bond through our heart, mind, soul and emotions.  At that moment there is no one if front of God in our lives!!!  All our focus is on Him and Him alone.  And in return….He is connected to us as He inhabits our praise because we drew Him in with our adoration and worship.  When I sing…for me it’s the same thing as my prayer times because I’m so connected to Him.  Sometimes after I sing a solo in church…I’m so in my spiritual zone that I have to excuse myself and go next door to another room in my church just to… be still my heart.

I could write pages on what music does to me and how we worship the Lord through it but I hope I’ve given you a little insight on music and God.

Singing to the Lord:

  1. Helps me focus on God.
  2. Heals my body and soul.
  3. Diminishes my trouble.
  4. Makes me happy.
  5. Sends a clear message to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit that I’m grateful everything they have, are doing and will do for me.
  6. It Lets God take notice of me because I’m calling His name.
  7. It Lets God know how exalted He is in my life.

Music comes from your heart…you don’t even have to have a good singing voice….you can even be deaf.  You can use sign language to sing.  What really matters is… who your praise is directed at and the source of your praise which is your heart and soul.  The Holy Spirit is the BEST music instructor and teacher.  Ask Him to help you.

why God created music hymns

If your church sings hymns…sing them from the depths of your heart and don’t just sing page 465 because you are instructed in the bulletin to do so.  My best advice is to sing when you are alone with God!!!!  Sing the song “Holy Holy Holy”.  You can even let the Holy Spirit help you to make up words and music to a song…and you will be shocked at this incredible experience.  Make up a song  about telling God you love Him.  You will be so blessed.  This blog is getting really long so I better try to stop here!  Sing…make music to the Lord all ye saint’s of God!!!!
