2 Samuel 6:14 David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might,
Dancing in the Spirit is an exciting way of praising the Lord. I have praised the Lord in dance…mostly when I’m alone….all by myself in my house. (Some people praise the Lord like this in Church and God bless them…I’m a little shy…maybe when I lose some weight I’ll praise Him publicly…LOL!) One day ( at home!) I danced so much I thought I was going to pass out. I could barely make it to a chair. I was sooo tired but it felt really good. I feel like I minister to the Lord in a totally different and exciting way. My spirit gets so excited and burst with so much passion for the Lord.
It is a totally different experience because when you are dancing like that…your mind and body are totally on the Lord and the more you dance the deeper in his presence you get. You don’t feel tired right away…you feel such joy and happiness. You get to a point where you don’t want to stop and so you go past your point of endurance and continue on. Then eventually you do run out of steam and you sit down and a feeling of euphoria comes over you and for a few more minutes you continue to experience an intense state of worship.
Why should we dance in the Lord? It’s another level of worship in God. I used to do it a lot when I was younger in the Lord…But now at…(you guessed it)…59… I have to modify it. I can’t jump around like I use to but I still dance without the jumping from time to time. I believe my spirit needs this because it really makes me feel close to my God in a unique way. It’s like I release my whole body over to the Lord. I also play a tambourine in church as a form of worship. With ever beat of my tambourine….I feel like I’m sending a message to God that He is worth me cheering about Him and I celebrate everything that He is in my life.
Psalms 149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp.
I came from a Lutheran background and we didn’t clap to music in church. In fact I was scared out of my mind just to sneeze in church. It was a form of silent and reverent worship…and that was so blessed to me. I had the quietness… just to drink in the goodness of God in a soft and moving way and to enjoy the beauty of quite meditation upon the Lord. I miss that time in my life. But I so enjoy praising the Lord in my more expressive form now. Sometime it stirs me right down to my very toes!
The good thing is that I can enjoy both stirring praise and quiet praise. In my town…I can park my car right up to the water at the ocean park and look at the beautiful ocean, bridges and the boats passing by. I sit there and look at the beauty of the land and seascape and meditate and talk to the Lord. I can be still and worship the Lord right in my car or at home also. When I want to get my exuberant praise on I do. I put on my worship music and praise the Lord at home or I praise the Lord with my brothers and sister in Christ at church. The key point is…to worship and praise the Lord by any means necessary for you.
Message for today: Remember how you used to get down and party at the club?….remember the crazy stuff you did at the football or any sport game game?….remember the way you celebrated and did the happy dance when something great happened in your life? Well to know that the most powerful being in the whole universe sent His only Son Jesus to die so that you will live with Him forever and that the Almighty God of the entire universe is your Father who is going to take away all suffering from you forever and give you the best life with Him for eternity…should make you want to do….your best happy dance for Him…now!!! So go ahead and shake….oh I mean get your dance on….because you’ve got a lot to dance about. Halleluiah!!!!!!!!! Go ahead and praise Him!!
Ecclesiastics 3:1,4 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: 4) a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance….

Tanya, Thank you for this message about dancing in the Lord. I was lucky enough to be at a Christian Women’s conference quite a few years back where some women “danced in the Lord ” as part of the program that was presented. It was the first time I had ever seen this and I was just amazed and filled with joy by the whole thing. My church doesn’t do this, I’m sad to say but, having you tell of dancing in the Lord in your own home makes me joyful because that is something that I can do even at 62. Like you it won’t be as fast or as fancy as I might have done years back but, I know the Lord will appreciate what I can do! Thank you for opening up my eyes to another way I can praise my God and Savior!

I was just at a Women’s Retreat myself this past weekend. I walked in at 700 pm using a cane and by 734 I threw that cane away. The Spirit hit me right in the chair I was sitting in. Still filled with the Spirit the next day I Danced in the Spirit like never before. I had been healed. My God, My God, it’s like fire, unspeakable joy and warmth, a love like no other love. Whew Jesus I get so filled up just talking and thinking about it. I pray the Spirit continues to move within me.

I’m so glad you added that song. It’s because of the power of the Holy Spirit that we are able to be filled and express our emotions in the form of praise dancing to the Lord.
One doesn’t need dance lessons….you just need the Holy spirit and a heart desire to have more of God!
If anybody else has a praise song to dance with just add yours too.

Amen Tanya. It’s so amazing because I’ve been really meditating on the type of Character David had towards God. He was truly a man after God’s own heart.
Here is a song from Fred Hammond that epitomizes this dance of david.
