Super bowl Sunday 2012… What team will God help win?

1 Corinthians 9:25-27  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

1 Timothy 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Today is Sunday…the day we honor the Lord at our places of worship.   But today is also…Super bowl Sunday.  I live in New York so of course this is a big event for all New Yorkers…but me.  Am I really into football?…nah!  Is my husband into it?…1,000% .

Is God into sports football?  Well I don’t know for sure…I think in recent events with Tim Tebow… it may have sparked an interest…LOL!  As noted in the above scriptures verses…sports has been around for a long time…that’s the way men are wired…competition driven!

So the big question…Which side is God rooting for?  I’m sure there are Christians on both sides.  I asked God this morning and I feel He said to me that sometimes things have to just take their natural course.  That makes sense to me.  Sometime we want to blame things on the devil…but many times things just happen.  I believe this game will just have to happen.  Yes…there will be many prayers going up to God for the game on both sides….maybe God should see which side has the least sinners?  Or maybe which side prays the loudest or the most sincere.  Nope!  It’s just going to be who was the most skilled on February 5, 2012!  That’s it folks!  So sit back and enjoy the game and get your “holla” on!

Like these mighty athletes…we too have been in training for a prize. This training helps us in this life and in the next.   When we complete our task and purpose for the Lord He will reward us with an eternal life with Him and all the rewards…crowns of life… for our work that we trained to do for Him.  Praise the Lord…Thank you Jesus!  May the Holy Spirit continue to guide you in your instruction and training for God.

Message for today: Have a great day and Go Giants and Patriots!  God bless you both!  May the best man win!

Barbeque and the Scriptures

1 Corinthians 10:31  So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.                                                        ( or barbecue…my passion 🙂 )

2 Timothy 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (Studying the bible is like spiritual BBQ-ing)

Today I’m going to BBQ for my husband and dad for tomorrows Superbowl dinner.  Being from New York you can see how important this is for my men folk!

I want to share something about myself….I LOVE TO BARBEQUE!!!!!  Ask my family…it’s my total passion.  I make my own rubs and sauces and love to cook in my smoker pit.  It takes me hours to make my special sauces.  I make different flavors such as my stick to your fingers BBQ sauce, mustard BBQ sauce, raspberry sauce, garlic sauce and on and on.  It takes a day to make up my different meat rubs.  I have one for chicken, ribs and seafood.  When I BBQ or smoke meat… there is a certain taste that I’m looking for.  It’s got to be just right or I won’t be satisfied and will do it again until I get it just right.  I can’t even eat other people’s BBQ because… if it’s too tough or not seasoned just right… I can’t get into it. My 6 adult children and husband said they compare other BBQ to mine also.  I spoiled them!

So you might say at this point…what in Pete’s name does this have to do with bible scriptures?

Well my husband has a passion for God’s word like I have for barbecuing.  He has his different rubs which are his NIV bible and his 365 days through the bible.  He uses different sauces such as the Strongs, the Naves, certain commentaries and other bible study tools. My husband’s passion for  word of God is something to behold.  He goes over God’s word like I watch over my slow cooking meat.  When I smell that smoke I know that meat is going to taste good.  When my husband goes over God’s word he knows that word in him is going to produce a good thing…not only in him but with whoever he shares that word with.  He is a minister so knowing God’s word is a very good thing.  My husband’s passion for God’s word has helped me so much with my Christian walk and I’m so grateful that I’m married to a great scripture barbecuer…this man can cook….I mean…rightly divide the word of God.

What’s your passion?  Mine is my family and BBQ-ing ….But my main passion is bible study,  prayer,  serving and worshiping my God.   We should all be very passionate about the word of God!!  Gotta go now and get cookin’…I mean studying the scriptures…now that’s some real…BBQ-ing!!

Message for today: Let’s all be passionate about what?……Studying God’s word.

My body may not well… but my spirit is

2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

As many of you may or may not know… I suffer with a chronic illness and this summer I asked for prayer form everyone when I went to a specialist who could possibly diagnose me.  Well he did diagnose me with a rare disorder called Periodic Paralysis.  I get episodes of extreme weakness and many times it feels like I’m having a stroke because my right side gets very weak.  I have difficulty breathing and heart irregularities.  When these attacks stop…I’m left with weakness, speech and memory problems that can last from a few hours to days.

I get these every morning around 11am but most days they are very mild and if I get the big debilitating episodes they can last on and off for a week or more.  Any physical activity brings these on as well as many other things can trigger these off so I never know how my next hour or day is going to be.  I’ve had symptoms of this illness as long as I can remember and over the years it has manifested in different ways.

The specialist I went to see gave me medication for it this summer and over these months I’ve tried different ones because the medications made me very sick.  So recently I’ve tried to control the symptoms with dietary changes and It’s not going to well and right now I’m even weaker.

This week I’ve come to realize that this is my life.  After spending most of my life trying to find out what I have… just to find out that it’s something that I  will have to deal with for the long haul …was a lot to take in….but…I tell you….the peace of God has flooded my soul and today I have peace.  Why?  Because my God has never left me in all of this and never will.  Why?  Because nothing will EVER separate me from His love and care.  Why? Because I know I can cast all my care on Him because He cares for me. Why? Because He is the good shepherd and He takes care of me.

So I tell you today…don’t feel sorry for me… because it is so well with my soul.  I know I belong to God….I know He is there for me….I know that EVERY morning God has promised me new mercies and I look for it and I get it.  It is well with my soul because… my eyes are fixed on the Lord.  Jesus name is on my lips and in my heart.  I know that when I am weak my God is strong in me.  I praise God in my storms and He surrounds me with His presence.  I have survived for 59 years with this and I will endure the rest of my life… safe in my Father’s arms.

When you have Jesus Christ in your life….you have everything you need for your life and as long as you have your eyes on Him…as long as you trust Him…you will be good.  But the great part about Jesus is that even if you are so weak and tired and you may even doubt a little….HE WILL NEVER LET YOU GO!!!  That’s how powerful His love is for us.

When my kids were little…I was like a mother grizzly bear.  If anyone tried to harm my kids I stood up on my hind legs and protected my 6 kids.  If they were sick…I was all over that thing in deed and prayer.  I used everything in my power to make sure my kids had everything they needed to make it.  But…If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!(Mathew 7:11)  Need I say more?

I don’t know what my future holds…but I know who holds my future and I PUT MYSELF IN HIS HANDS!

I leave you with these scriptures:

2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Isaiah 49:29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Psalms 76:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalms 23:4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. (NLT)

Psalms 54:4 Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.

Psalms 18:2  The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Message for today: No matter what happens to my body…it has nothing to do with my soul and my relationship with the Lord. My trust is in the Lord and it is truly well with my soul!!!!

You are under surveillance!

Gods eye’s are everywhere

Proverbs 15:3  The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Job 34:21 “His eyes are on the ways of men; he sees their every step.

There is a song I was going to write about made popular by Bette Midler in 1990 called….From a distance.  The words are: God is watching us ,God is watching us, God is watching us, From a distance.

Now the writer of this song was not taking about our God whose Son is Jesus…but anybody’s God is watching us…so this song can’t work for me…but I can say that my bible says….God’s eyes are everywhere and He is watching us.

I think some people think God takes long naps or He went to visit another galaxy to check on some of His other creations and forgot about us…but I tell  you… the bible is truth…God is not a man that He would lie to us and He says in His word that He sees all…good and evil…He sees every single thing that goes on down here on earth.  God know what every person had for breakfast today.  He knows what’s in everybody’s top draw….yeah some us have got some weird stuff in that top draw.  Every evil thing that’s being done right now…He knows.  Evil people aren’t getting away with anything.  They are not pulling the wool over Gods eyes.

We are under surveillance !

God is not spying on us either.  His looking eyes are motivated by LOVE for us and He is Holy… so there can ONLY be goodness when He is looking at us and after us. God is not sitting around with Jesus,  the Holy Spirit,  some of His angels and the cloud of witnesses watching us like they’re watching a football game saying….wow…look at Tanya sweating this one out…let’s see what will happen if we let this happen to her….oh no…she bombed out…to bad…let’s try this next.

God watches over us…His children… like the very protective Father that He is and He is saving His judgment for the evil deeds from the other people for that day when all that He’s seen them do will be dealt with.

So pray and talk to God with the confidence that He knows what is going on with you. Know what the bible says He will do for you and be bold and ask Him for what you need.  If you have sudden trouble…He knows all about it because His eyes are everywhere so call on Him right away.

Should we be concerned about everything we do as a child of God…yup!…But God is careful not to let us feel like a fish in a bowl.  He gives us certain privacy that’s why people do bad things without feeling really bad.  We should remember God is watching 24/7…but..do we?

Message for today:  God has His eye on you….whatcha doin’?

These days we are being watch all the time, at the mall, on the job, just everywhere! God is watching us too.

1 Peter 1:5-7 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

“God-tunities”

Colossians 4:3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.

Hebrew 6:1  God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

Mathew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

One of the principal rules of religion is, to lose no occasion of serving God. And, since he is invisible to our eyes, we are to serve him in our neighbor; which he receives as if done to himself in person, standing visibly before us. John Wesley

Have you ever realized that you can give things to God that are of value to Him? Or are you just sitting around daydreaming about the greatness of His redemption, while neglecting all the things you could be doing for Him? I’m not referring to works which could be regarded as divine and miraculous, but ordinary, simple human things – things which would be evidence to God that you are totally surrendered to Him. – Oswald Chambers

I thought I was making up a new word… “God-tunity”…  using God and opportunity and combing them…but when I Googled my new term I found many people have used that so…I’m not brilliant…oh well.

My point in all of this was to make a point that there are opportunities out there every day to do things for the Lord.  When you make a commitment to serve Him and you have read His word and know the things He would like you to do and you have the knowledge that the Holy Spirit will guide you…. You can expect for the God-tunities to be there.  I look for ways to serve Him daily.  Most of the time I’m right on…God speaks and I move.  But sometimes I’ll miss that opportunity either because I wasn’t paying enough attention or I was too afraid…or even I was….ugh….too busy.  Excuses….excuses.

Example….one day I was in an office and I was sitting next to a couple.  The Lord told me to strike up a conversation and I did.  This led to them being comfortable with me and then the Lord made an opening for me to share my testimony and to give them my personal tract with my story.  They told me they had been through a lot and was thinking about God and finding a church.  I hit the mark on this one.

But there are times when God pointed out someone and I let the opportunity get away from me and in my spirit I knew…well ok…the Holy Spirit lets you know you missed it.   You just hear an inner voice that speaks to you or you get an uncomfortable feeling.  So you apologize to God and wait for your next assignment.  You don’t allow yourself to be riddled with guilt because that serves no purpose and our God is forgiving and patient with us.

WARNING- Don’t force opportunities… but wait on the Holy Spirit’s lead.  Like…if you stand up in the middle of a group of people and start sharing the gospel…unless God told you to do so….you’re gonna look CRAZY and you will not have the anointing that will make Gods word come alive to the people.  But if God speaks to you about the person you are sitting next to and you start praying for them…after the meeting you might invite them for a cup of coffee…now that’s a good thing…an opportunity.

Reach out and touch somebody's hand make this world a better place...I know you can!

There are many other types of God-tunities…like helping a neighbor or a stranger in need.  Calling an old acquaintance…cooking a small meal for a sick friend are little blessed things that can be done.  Look around when you are in church…people come to church and some are suffering with things in their personal life…maybe you can offer friendship and help.  Even if you are housebound…you might call and encourage someone.

If you’re committed and submitted to the Lord and you love Him with all your heart…your passion will be that you want to willingly do things to please Him.  Serving others is definitely one way to get to His heart!!

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might……(Ecclesiastes 9:10)

Colossians 3:17  And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Massage for today: Look for something you can do for the Lord.

Yesterday’s blog update

Yesterday’s message was so important that the enemy’s was really mad at me and tried to attack me all day.  He didn’t want you to read my blog.  Yesterday was a battle…I won…I’m here and I’m praising my Lord and Savior and telling everyone again…that we have authority over the enemy.  If you didn’t read yesterdays blog…please read it.  I’m not backing down off of nothing!! I’m gonna tell the truth about God word.  I’m going to tell what I know that will help people with their walk with the Lord!!

Yes …stuff happened to me yesterday…one of the things that happened last night after a day of battles… was I put a dozen  eggs on the stove to boil so I could make….I know…angel eggs (you know what the real name is….but we’re not going there). I went in my room and forgot about the eggs boiling on the stove. When I finally went into the kitchen… it was all white with billowing smoke…the pot was burning really bad….all of the eggs exploded and was ALL OVER the kitchen.  Even after I took them off the stove they were still exploding.  The whole house was filled with smoke and the smell of burnt eggs still lingers this morning. My house could have caught on fire…but God didn’t let that happen!!!

So I went back to reread yesterdays blog because obviously there is something that can really help us.  So be encouraged today…we do have authority over our enemy and we can be victorious!!  Be informed know God’s word trust God and have faith.  Thank you Jesus!!

How you can kick satan’s butt!!

Well….you don’t need to kick the devils butt…..because Jesus has already defeated Him!  He won the battle for us.  He paid the price. Praise the Lord!!  We can take authority over the enemy because we are children of the most high God and when we became born again and made Jesus our personal Lord and Savior…we received God’s Holy Spirit living inside of us.  God’s power in us is stronger than the power that’s in the world.  When we pray in Jesus name after accepting Christ as our Savior and committing ourselves to Him…we learn what the bible says about what God will do for us…and that is…we have authority over the enemy of our souls!

There are principles to follow.  We can’t just use Jesus name all willy nilly all over the place like calling a Genie out of a bottle kind of thing.  We must use wisdom and respect for the power and authority of God in our lives.  Satan is nothing to toy with either…He is a powerful adversary.  You better know what you’re doing and if you don’t…you need to blow the dust off your bible and get to studying and also pray for wisdom and discernment.  Satan is a strong enemy and we need to know and be able to use all the weapons God tells us about in His word to keep the devil from trampling over us and our family, Church, community, nation and this troubled world.

Look around…listen to the news.  These are very troubled times for everyone and it seems like these troubles will be here for a long while.  So we need to equip ourselves for the long battle.  Let’s not get caught out there.  We have authority over the enemy’s advances…but are we using it?   Do we know how?  Don’t wait for the trials to arrive….get prepared now.  If the weatherman said a big storm was coming and you didn’t go out and stock up on some food, batteries and supplies you would put you and your family in serious jeopardy.  The bible says that we’ll have many trials and all different kinds so stock up on some food…spiritual food.  Get you some supplies which are the scriptures and notes from past trials.  Get you some batteries which is some prayer time.  Now you’ll be…prepared!

I’ve given you some scripture verses to either remind you or get you started….but this is not enough.  The bible is packed with weapons you can use to take authority over our adversary.  Jesus did when He was tempted so do what our brother did.  Know God’s word!

1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Mathew 4:4  Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

John 14:14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Message for today: Don’t lay down and let satan walk all over you…..get up off that floor!…..know God’s word and take authority over that situation in the name of Jesus.  Pray and Trust God….Know what God’s will is and have faith. Then wait on the Lord to answer you.  Be of good courage!!

Come on…Get up off that floor!!!

I’m telling you that if you’re a child of God you have the authority over the devil’s stronghold in your life!!!

You can be victorious!!! Yes you can!!

“P.S. – This is my own philosophy….I know the devil is out there and he needs to be kept in his place.  I know what to do…how to use the word of God take authority.  I’m well aware of his presence BUT…..I’d rather spend most of my time praising God and thanking and lifting up the name of Jesus than talk about the devil.  What needs to be done pertaining to the devil I do…but most of my time is dedicated to being with my Lord and Savior and walking with God.”  I don’t spend time…devil chasing.  I know I have HIM on the run!!
