sustain

The Webster’s definition of sustain is:

To keep from falling; to bear; to uphold; to support; as, to keep from sinking. To maintain; to keep alive; to support; to subsist; to nourish. To aid, comfort, or relieve.

Examples of sustaining are:  a foundation sustaining a superstructure; a beast sustains a load; a rope sustains a weight.

One who does this is a “SUSTAINER!”

Psalms 54:4 Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.

Psalms 55: 22 Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

GOD IS OUR SUPPORT! Jesus made sure of this and the Holy Spirit makes sure we get this support 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days of the year! We are NEVER without support from the Lord our sustainer.

Without the sustainer I could not look up at the sky and see the white clouds and blue sky knowing that just beyond the beautiful blue sky there is a cold, no oxygen atmosphere and knowing that without God’s sustaining power this planet would have disintegrated a long time ago.  God sustains the lives and world He created!

Without the sustainer I would have lost my mind, killed myself and I would be a medical mess had He not helped me when I cried out to Him. I KNOW that when I wake up God will be there for me! I know that when I cry out to Him (And I’ve done this hundreds and hundreds of times) that He will answer me and help through my distress.

So I live by this scripture: Psalms 91:1-2 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

I know Jesus watches over me! He’s the sustainer of my soul.

I hang out with God all day and night. When I don’t …I can feel myself getting weak and fearful. It’s not that God pulls away from me but that I’m not keeping my mind on Him. Me…a born again human being needs to stay up under God for my mental, emotional and spiritual strength. I can’t make it without my ongoing relationship with the Lord. I may get busy and not intentionally ignore God but if I do that, my inner man suffers for it and before I know it I start to feel unsustained. So every day I start my day with talking to God and scripture. Throughout my day I’m either listening to sermons on the radio as I do my daily chores or I’m listening to my gospel music. I also blog which requires me to do bible study and this helps me. My husband and I also talk daily about the things of God.sustain 3

This may not be everyone’s things to do, but it’s what I need to do. It’s because of my continuous daily battle with my health issues and the normal trials of life that I need to dwell in the secret place with God. This girl hangs with her God!!!! I have to! He holds me together! He keeps my mind steady, my body functioning and He keeps the enemy from devouring me. I’m very much sustained and I’m soooo thankful to Father God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit for all they do to keep this old girl going!!! I know I’m God’s girl!! I know who watches over me! Why in the world would I leave His side?

God holds me up!

Carol King wrote a beautiful song and I hear the Lord saying the words of this song to me. Maybe you are going through something today. You might need to hum this song to yourself and know that you indeed have a best friend like this. He IS the sustainer of your soul!  When I played this song on YouTube it made me cry.  I’ve include the link below.

John 15:15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

“You’ve Got A Friend”

When you’re down and troubled and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa, nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I’ll be there, yeah, yeah,
you’ve got a friend.

If the sky above you should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow,
keep your head together and call my name out loud.
Soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I’ll be there.

Hey, ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend? People can be so cold.
They’ll hurt you and desert you. Well, they’ll take your soul if you let them,
oh yeah, but don’t you let them.

You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call, Lord, I’ll be there, yeah, yeah,
you’ve got a friend. You’ve got a friend.
Ain’t it good to know you’ve got a friend. Ain’t it good to know you’ve got a friend.
Oh, yeah, yeah, you’ve got a friend.
